2019 Festival Passes Are Now Available

The All Access VIP Pass gives you the follow advantages:

The All Access VIP Pass is currently available for $75 until Dec. 31 at midnight. Those passes will then go up to $100.

 

The Film Festival Pass offers you the following:

The Film Festival Pass is currently $35, but will go up to $40 beginning January 1.

 

During the festival, you can also purchase Day Passes which allow you access to screenings and panels for $15.

South Georgia Film Festival Announces Judges for 2018 Competition

VALDOSTA, GA – With local and regional professionals, the South Georgia Film Festival announces the judges for this year’s 2018 competition. This year’s judges include Sonny Shroyer, Terrell Sandefur, Dean Poling, Brantly Jackson Watts, and many more.

Judges will be looking at three categories – Open, High School and College. Winners in each category will receive a trophy created by Harmon Awards in Valdosta, along with a day pass to Wild Adventures them park.

Winners in the High School and College categories will be eligible for scholarships to Valdosta State University.

This year’s judges run the gamut of professional experiences. Actor Sonny Shroyer made the role of Enos on “The Dukes of Hazzard” famous, but has recently been nominated for a Grace Award for his role in “The Way Home” and appeared in the Georgia produced series “Rectify.” Sonny has been very supportive of the arts in Valdosta and students at VSU specifically.

Terrell Sandefur’s work with the Macon Film Festival has led to a successful career in public relations and marketing across the film and arts communities. Currently, Sandefur is working with Veterans of Georgia in Film & Television to support retraining for service members into the state’s growing media industries.

Brantly Jackson Watts just completed shooting her newest film, “Spoon,” and continues to work as the Program and Outreach Manager for Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. She will be screening her film award winning film “Birthday Cake” Friday night at the Turner Center for the Arts, along her husband and fellow judge Jon Watts, who will be screening his film “Matthew’s Gift.”

The majority of judges will be attending the festival screening films or participating on panels, such as Dan A. R. Kelly of Georgia Film Academy, Luke Pilgrim and Brad Kennedy of Sozo Bear Films, and Klarque Garrison of Surge TV. Klarque will be a part of Friday’s 1 pm networking event, while Sozo Bear has a Saturday Filmmaker panel at 5:45 pm. Kelly’s panel will take place Sunday at 11 am before the Awards ceremony.

Judges also include local media personalities Dean Poling of the Valdosta Daily Times and Marcus McConico of Channel 17. Lyndon Burch and Sheba Thomas of the American Youth Film Festival will also be serving as judges. They will present a prize package to each of the winners of discounted submission and attendance to this year’s AYFF in Atlanta.

The 2018 South Georgia Film Festival includes three days of events – screenings, panels and networking events celebrating the expanding creativity and economic development of the film industry. Sponsored by the Georgia Councils of the Arts, Georgia Power and Valdosta State University, the second annual festival looks to bring the growing film industry to South Georgia.

High school and college students can attend all of the day’s events by showing a valid ID.  All events after 5:30 pm will require a pass.

Passes are currently available through the South Georgia Film website for $35. Participants can also purchase a Day Pass for $15, and get access to all screenings, panels or events for any single day of the festival.

Georgia Power Announced as Sponsor for the 2018 South Georgia Film Festival

VALDOSTA, GA – Demonstrating its support for the creative and industrious in the community, Georgia Power has come on as a Sponsor for the 2018 South Georgia Film Festival.

“We are excited to connect with pillars of the community like Georgia Power,” said Jason Brown, Festival Director and Assistant Professor of Mass Media at Valdosta State University. “As film continues to grow as an industry in our state, we want to showcase the opportunities for our South Georgia communities to take part. I think Georgia Power is the kind of partner that agrees with that kind of community support.”

WCTV Joins South Georgia Film Festival as TV Sponsor

WCTV and Gray Television announce they are proud supporters of the South Georgia Film Festival which encourages and promotes filmmakers and supportive cast to bring Film to the Public as art and entertainment. The South Georgia Film Festival plans to bridge the film industry and South Georgia with the help of such great media partners.

As the CBS affiliate for the Bend Bend of Florida and South Georgia, WCTC was the regions first television station, signing on September 15, 1955. Owned by Gray Television, WCTV broadcasts from Thomas County with its studios in Tallahassee, Florida reaching more than a quarter-million homes and families.

Williams Group Supports the South Georgia Film Festival

In support of art and industry, the Williams Group is proud to sponsor the South Georgia Film Festival. South Georgia Film Festival announces 2018 Schedule

VALDOSTA, GA – The South Georgia Film Festival announced the schedule for the 2018 event, including three days of events and nearly a dozen speakers.

Celebrating the creative spirit, the South Georgia Film Festival will be showcasing the beauty of the region and its people with film screenings, panels and networking events.

Friday March 2 kicks off at the Valdosta State University Mass Media building with a media networking event organized with local partners Valdosta Daily Times and WCTV-TV. Students and pass holders will be encouraged to meet and talk with media professionals amongst the university’s recently renovated television studios. Beginning at 5:30 pm at the Annette Howell Turner for the Arts, Filmmaker Brantly Jackson Watts will screen her acclaimed film BIRTHDAY CAKE, along with her husband Jon Watts and his film MATTHEW’S GIFT. Both recently served as Filmmakers-In-Residence with the Atlanta Film Festival and will be discussing growing a filmmaking economy locally.

The documentary Rodents of Unusual Size depicts the devastation of coastal wetlands, particular around New Orleans, Louisiana – and how the community has adapted.

Saturday March 3 at the Valdosta State University Student Union Theater, day filled with regional high school and college films, along with professional films. Valdosta State University is offering substantial scholarship opportunities to the high school and college winners should they choose to attend VSU. At 1 pm, the Georgia premiere of the feature length documentary RODENTS OF UNUSUAL SIZE, about the infestation of Nutria along the Gulf Coast and how Louisiana communities are adapting to these creatures.  Directors Chris Metzler, Jeff Springer & Quinn Costello premiered the film at DOCS NYC in November and will be screening at the Oxford Film Festival this February.

Simultaneously, on the third floor, a collection of great presenters thanks in part to the Georgia Council for the Arts Vibrant Community grant. Panel presentations include the likes of composer Mark Anthony Chubb, comedians and filmmakers Fray Forde and Catherine Dee Holly,  and VSU alum and Macon Film Commissioner Terrell Sandefur.

The screenings will conclude with the Georgia produced film THE 12 LIVES OF SISSY CARLYLE from writer/director Fran Burst Terranella. As a former president of the Georgia Production Partnership, Terranella will discuss how important the tax incentive has been to statewide industry and why she kept her film crew local. The evening will cap off with an after-party at the festival hotel, Holiday Inn & Conference Center on Hill Ave.

Sunday March 4 begins with a series of curated short films and idiosyncratic documentaries from regional filmmakers before the presentation of the awards to the winning films as they are re-screened. Last years winning films came from right here in Valdosta and Birmingham, AL. Where will the winners come from this year?

To celebrate the holiday season, tickets for the South Georgia Film Festival are now available!

You can now buy an Advance Festival Pass, which will guarantee you early seating for screenings, access to panels and admission to the parties for $25, which runs until Jan. 5. If you wait to get Festival passes, it will cost $35. Starting Jan. 1, you’ll also be able to purchase Day Passes for events on any individual day.

If you really want to support the festival, check out the VIP Festival Pass, which includes all of the above, along with a limited edition festival t-shirt. VIP Festival Passes are now on-sale for $50 and will include an individualized Thank You card. VIP Passes purchased before Jan. 5 will be able to request specific shirt sizes. Afterward, VIP Pass holders will choose from the available sizes.

Active Valdosta State University students, along with Wiregrass Technical College and area high school students will be able to see all the daily screenings and panels for free. After eligible pass holders have been seated 10 minutes before a screening, verified students and day pass holders will be given access to the remaining available seats. Students will present their ID to receive daily tickets for the free access line.

We are offering these passes today to help support travel and transportation costs for visiting filmmakers, food and entertainment costs for all of those participating in the festival, and any additional awards and prizes. Your purchase today helps support the film community here in South Georgia.
